Broccoli for Developers
Who this is for: engineers on a team — using Broccoli day to day, as an individual contributor.
Your role: Team Access, read-only on your team's plan and delivery data. This is deliberate: Broccoli is your manager's planning tool, and your window into it — not another board you have to keep up to date. Your work is tracked in JIRA and GitHub, and Broccoli reads from those.
Step 1 — First login
Change your password when prompted. Your navigation: Roadmap, JIRA Live, GitHub Metrics, Developer Insights, Whiteboard, Profile.
Step 2 — Set your GitHub username
Do this first, on your Profile. Until it's set, none of your commits, pull requests or reviews are attributed to you anywhere in Broccoli — you'll appear to have done nothing. This is the single most common cause of "the metrics are wrong."
While you're there, you can record which AI tools you use — that feeds Developer Insights.
Step 3 — See where your work sits
Roadmap shows your team's plan: what's committed this quarter, what's in progress, what's at risk, and who owns what. Items linked to a ticket show live status pulled from JIRA. You can read everything and comment, but you can't change items — if a date or status is wrong, tell your manager, or fix it in JIRA, which is where the roadmap reads from.
JIRA Live is the current sprint board, filtered to your team's scope — read-only, same data as JIRA itself, without the JIRA navigation.
Step 4 — See your own delivery data
Developer Insights is your personal view: commits, pull requests opened and merged, reviews you did, weekly throughput, plus your self-reported AI tool usage. GitHub Metrics is the team-wide version.
Read these as activity counts, not a performance score — review load and PR size aren't comparable across people doing different kinds of work. The most useful signal here is usually review distribution — whether one person is reviewing everything.
Metrics refresh every 15 minutes, with a force-refresh button. Bot and service accounts are filtered out.
Step 5 — Whiteboards
The one thing you can freely create — canvases for design sketches and debugging sessions, shareable with specific people. Private to you, not your team, until you share them.
What you cannot do
Change roadmap items, see other teams, see your manager's 1:1 notes or journal, or receive an individually shared roadmap (you already see your team's roadmaps through your role). You can always change your own password and profile.
